Nikola Tesla (1856-1943)
Nikola Tesla was a Serbian born inventor, electrical/mechanical engineer, physicist, and futurist. He is considered the father of the modern technological age and one of the most controversial scientists of all time.
Although Tesla is probably best remembered for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply system, Tesla filed more than 300 patents during his lifetime. His inventions helped pave the way for alternating current (AC), electric motors, radios, fluorescent lights, lasers, and remote controls, among many other things.
Some of his ideas included plans for a death ray and alluded to another idea for an impenetrable “wall of force” to block and destroy foreign invasions.
Tesla was renowned for his achievements and showmanship, eventually earning him a reputation in popular culture as the “mad scientist”.
After his death his work fell into relative obscurity, and Tesla became “the forgotten inventor”.
